Washed Away Summer

It is the end of spring and the beach is scattered with legions of bronze bodies, tight bikinis, oversized parasols and bottles of sunscreens. A group of boys is out frolicking, frisking in the summer’s sun, flattering every girl they see and flirt their way around the beach as they are heading to a docked speedboat at a nearby pier.

A girl barely in her teens is putting on a set of snorkel, a diving mask and a pair of flippers. She waves to her parents lounging on the beach, dives into the sea and disappears under the water, save for the red-coloured snorkel popping out from the surface.

They start the engine and race the boat along the shore on the deeper waters. The boys whistle and make noises, desperately seeking attention from a group of bikini-clad girls, wooing them with their muscle-flexing and offensive sexual gestures.

But soon after, the boat leaves a trail of blood and a severely wounded body is floating several metres away from the shore.

End.
